I've been engaged for almost 2 weeks...

So it's been almost two weeks since Brandon and I became engaged and boy has it been fun! Everyone has been super supportive and excited for us. The day we got engaged I had to go to work, but it was fun to surprise everyone with the news, I had lots of friends visiting that day it was awesome, and man does my ring sure sparkle under all the store lights. I had a tonne of e-mails and face book messages of Congratulations that I got to respond to...I love all my friends. This is a picture of how i opened my ring with the little note tucked inside. I had a little photo shoot with my ring...I know I'm a geek!ha ha...

The past two Sundays have been a blast getting to share the news and talk weddings with all the gals who have gotten married, I appreciate all their advice sooo much and I'm sure I'll be asking them many more questions in the coming weeks!! What was great the first Sunday, was that all three of my future sister-in-laws (Meaghan, Chelsey and Brittany) were all in Halifax for church so they got to see the ring and we had some girl chats...I'm such a lucky girl I'm marrying into an awesome family- so now not only will I have my great family but I'll have Brandon's too...I couldn't ask for anything sweeter!!

Last Wednesday was a blast at school...I guess no one had noticed my ring until my last class of the day, I left early so no one got to ask anything...so Lisa came up to me in the hall Wednesday and asked if I was engaged and she heard the whole story. Then Amanda comes into the class that Brandon and I have together and is super excited yelling congratulations. So she told everyone which was too funny...at this point in the day no other guys but Brandon were in class so he had to put up with all the excited girls!! It was really sweet, he didn't want everyone at school to know at first, so later on in the day I apologized for everyone knowing and he said that it was okay because he got to see how happy it made me...what a guy!! That's one reason why I love him so much, he's a definite sweetie!!

Survivor Night was Thursday and as always we had a fun time...the girls finally got to see my ring. What was a big surprise was when Natalie walked in the door and surprised us all...she took pictures of me and my ring, I'll have to get them from her. So the five of us had a fun night chatting and laughing...Greys' was great as always and no survivor this week...it had a little break and will be back on this week (Wednesday actually but we are watching it tonight) It looks super good!! I was super excited because Kerry's mom let me borrow her Martha Stewart wedding book it's so big and beautiful I love it!!!!

Friday my little friend Brayden got Baptized at church, it was such a special night for him and his family. There were moments when I started tearing up!! It was a beautiful event filled with love. I taugh brayden in Sunbeams when he was three and we've stayed great buddies over the past five years!! He is the sweetest little guy! After the baptism mom and I jetted over to dartmouth for Kathy's Pampered Chef Party...we were there just in time for food, it was delicious!! It was great to visit with everyone, I ordered a food chopper, which everyone says is amazing!! I got to finally see sonja, she hadn't seen my ring on me yet so we were super excited. She'd been away in Utah for 2 weeks, I missed her like crazy, so it's nice to have her back home. She went to visit the sister missionary that taught her about the church they've become great friends and took some adorable pictures of there kids together...here are two of them...

There are some other super cute ones but I still have much more to write. So the party was fun...Leslie Fraser was there and she is just too funny...soooo excited for the wedding...she kept calling me Mrs.Bing.hahha!! I finally got to see Brandon's mom for the first time since everything became official it was great to see her and chat she is such a sweetie! I got to hold ethan for a bit tonight too, i sure did miss him, he looks so much bigger now and get this he has his two bottom teeth, next time i see him I'm going to take pictures!!

Hmm....what else...this week has been hectic with papers due and tests, but Brandon and I are surviving. We went to Scanway this week and booked our cake. We have to go in the beginning of April for some taste testing and choosing everything about it which gives me not much time to decide on colors...you'd think picking colors would be easy but it's not, it's constantly on my mind...but i need to choose soon any suggestions would be great! Brandon and I have to figure out what we want the cake to look like...the one Brandon likes we call the mad hatter cake from scanway, it's beautiful but it's like a 700 dollar cake...I had to lay down the law and say no to that...we were not going to spend that much on a cake. We;re putting money aside each week to go toward the cake, that way when it comes time to pay for that we'll have our money all ready!! That's been the big bulk of wedding plans. I've been looking at dresses on line it's just so hard to decide...again any suggestions would be great. I have to get my ring sized soon, I'm just not ready to part with it yet!! haha...I'm so silly I take it off whenever i get a shower or wash my hands, just so it'll stay sparkly and new!

Margot is a Mommy!! I had to share the latest baby news, my friend Margot and her husband Christopher welcomed their first baby into the world this month...Autumn Ketzali Wennerholm was born on March 15th at 12:09 am! She weighed 7 lbs 5 ounces and was 21 inces long. Mommy says they are all doing great and that Autumn has lots of dark hair and blue eyes. I'm super excited for the newly expanded family...they need to come visit so I can meet their little cutie!!

Last night Brandon and I went to a pre-screening of the new movie Shooter staring Mark Wahlberg... We got the tickets free at Roots again...I'm loving all these free movies!! Brandon was able to figure out the movie pretty quickly because he loves movies, I was impressed! We both enjoyed the movie...I actually really liked it, it was an interesting story line and quite thrilling. Violent but you kinda guess that from the name of the movie! What made it even better was that mark walhberg is quite the cutie in it...he even looks good in camo face paint!! I would recommed this one for sure!!!
Here is what the movie is about, I got this off the empire theatre web-site...

Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) is a former Marine Corps sniper who thought he had walked away from the job forever after a devastating betrayal. Now, despite having sequestered himself in a remote mountain hideaway, Bob is approached by retired Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover), who tells him the country desperately needs him. As Johnson tells it, an assassination attempt on the President of the United States is imminent and only Swagger's lethal skills and savvy expertise in long-range ballistics can halt the threat.
Swagger reluctantly agrees one last time to serve his country -- but what he doesn't know is that the entire mission is a set-up by a dark government cabal with its own agenda. By the time Swagger realizes the event has been rigged, it's too late. Suddenly, he finds himself in the headlines as the lone gunman who tried to shoot the President.
Hunted at every turn, with nowhere to hide and no one to help him except a mystified woman he's just met (Kate Mara) and a novice FBI agent risking his career (Michael Peña), Swagger is in a desperate battle which will put everything he knows to the test. The clock is ticking as he tries to figure out who the real hit men are before they hit him. But Swagger soon realizes even more than his own survival is at stake -- because he's about to lift the veil off a devastating conspiracy at the very heart of American power.
What was fun about the movie is that adrain, his girlfriend Sarah, Terri and her husband Ben were all there and we got to sit together is was a blast!
Well I think those are the main things that have been happening this week...it's been super fun being engaged, and I cannot wait to be married!! If I've forgotten anything I will post it up soon, I'm off to survivor/girls night...should be a blast s always!
Hope you are all doing great and that you made it through this massive post!!
Oh and thanks Julia for keeping me on top of posting this week, you are the best, as soon as school is done we are hanging out!!!

I am still really excited you two are joining the married club. Your ring is so pretty. I would take Julia's advice in trying on dresses here. If you see one that is nice online, try to find a similar one to try on. Also, i totally looked at that mad hatter cake at scanway...very cool but I understand the money thing. It's hard to spend that much on a cake. Anything from scanway would be awesome though. Have fun planning...

Hey Karen,

As I got married in Seattle and live in Vancouver I had to do a lot of on-line and telephone planning and it's surprisingly easy! There are SO many websites out there but here are some I found helpful:

Flowers, Hair, Ideas:
www.weddingchannel.com
www.theknot.com
www.marthastewart.com/weddings/

Dresses:
www.beautifullymodest.com
www.latterdaybride.com
www.eternitystore.com

For my dress, I just got my measurements and ordered a size that fit into them. I was measured by a seamstress and I brought the company's sizing chart and got her to help me pick the size.

As for colors, I saw someone recently who had pink, white & brown and I thought that was a nice mix.

Enjoy the planning!

Yay Karen. This is all so exciting! You should go get your ring sized asap then you don't have to worry about it! A note about ring sizing...make sure you get it sized where Brandon bought it.... remember my promise ring from Matt? It's miscoloured because it was sized somewhere else!
As for cake... I suggest Chocolate :P But then that's me!
Are you working next Saturday? I might try and pop over to Roots before my flight leaves for the UK....
Have you started learning to cook yet? :P

Hey Karen! I am SOO excited to see your blog and read all about how you are doing:) I did the same thing with my ring when I first got, but it is too hard to get off in the morning so I gave up. Nate got my ring a size and a half too big and when it was sized it was a little small! But anyway, a little tip... to keep it clean, you can use the regular Mr. clean diluted with water and a tooth brush, it takes the muck right out and keeps it sparkly clean! CONGRATS AGAIN!
